Join Shoot The Light host Joe Subolefsky for 4 full days of photography and small group instruction at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico.
The official bird checklist for Bosque lists 48 species as being common or abundant in the winter, including 5 raptors and 12 species of waterfowl. But the stars of the show are the tens of thousands of snow geese and sandhill cranes that make Bosque their winter home. Add in the spectacular New Mexico sunrises and sunsets along with the high desert landscape and mountain backdrops and you have the recipe for some gorgeous and dramatic imagery.
Bosque is legendary for the "blast offs" of snow geese at sunrise with thousands of birds taking off en masse creating a spectacle of sight and sound that you will never forget. The brilliant New Mexico sunsets provide the perfect backdrop for beautiful silhouettes of cranes coming into roost in the evenings. Between sunrise and sunset, opportunities abound for capturing geese and cranes in flight including dynamic takeoff and landing poses. The abundance of birds makes Bosque an ideal location for honing your flight photography skills.
Field instruction will be offered during each day's morning and afternoon photo sessions and there will be a 2-hour classroom session each day tailored to the needs and interests of the group. To ensure the best possible instruction and allow for more individual attention, this workshop will have a maximum of 6 participants.

The workshop fee includes five nights lodging at the Holiday Inn Express in Socorro. This hotel is the “best in town” and underwent a complete renovation in 2019.
