Sea of Cortez Photographic Expedition aboard the Don Jose
March 2nd - 9th, 2008

This trip is going to Rock! It is one you will not want to miss.

Join Award-winning Master photographer Charles Glatzer and Marine Biologist/Writer/Photographer Michelle Gilders on a voyage into the whale-rich waters of the Sea of Cortez to photograph the breathtaking breaching of humpback whales, and the languorous movements of blue, and fin whales. Thrill at thousands of common dolphins, pods of pilot whales and orca. Snorkel with California sea lions. Hike desert islands filled with barrel cactus and huge cardons.

As with all other trips, this is a workshop, not just a photo tour. Instruction is designed to enhance your visionary skills, as well as your technical execution.

Maximizing our photographic potential, this workshop is scheduled to coincide with the peak of winter whale activity in the lower part of the Sea of Cortez.

Highlights…
Best sampler platter for whales in Baja
Encounters with humpback, blue, finback whales, and dolphins.
Snorkeling with sea lions
Sweet light island and mangrove bird photography.

Traveling south from La Paz to Loreto on the beautiful Sea of Cortez we meander through the azure waters searching for whales. These are some of the best whale-watching waters in the world. Possible species include blue whales, fin whales, Bryde’s whales, humpback whales, orca/killer whales, pilot whales, common dolphins, and sperm whales. In some years, whale sharks have been seen. Each day will include time spent looking for whales, with stops made for snorkeling, beach, island and birding photo exploration. Early mornings will take advantage of the sweet light to enter mangrove swamps or search island coves for birds.

The rich panoply of wildlife viewed while cruising renders this wildlife cruise one of our most exciting workshops. Cruise aboard the 80' Don Jose, crafted with a touch of Mexican style and ready to carry you and twelve other passengers on a leviathan adventure of a lifetime!

Our boat- the 80' motor vessel DON JOSE was designed and built in 1978 especially for Baja Expeditions. Marine wildlife viewing onboard is at its best as the second and third decks of the boat are high above the water enabling passengers to look down upon the whales, dolphins, sea lions, and more. She comes with a crew of six ready to assist us at a moments notice.

The menu aboard is first class, and delicious. Rest assured you will be spoiled!
